First Baptist Church on the Square
LaGrange, GA
Worship Center & Education Wing $6,200,000
Children's Building $3,180,186
Batson-Cook demolished the church's old sanctuary and added an
underground level for a fellowship hall and classrooms. A 1,200-seat
worship center was then constructed that was designed to look similar
to the previous one. An interior educational wing was built adjacent
to the worship center. To invoke a sense of heritage, the worship
center features the existing steeple, stained glass, and aluminum
windows. The steeple was modified to enclose a new 49-bell carillon.
Batson-Cook also completed the 38,000-square-foot education and
children’s center building, which included a 6,000-square-foot parking
level. This building was used for daycare and kindergarten classes,
as well as nursery through fifth grade Sunday school classes. It
featured large rally rooms, hand-painted murals, “wet / dry” areas,
and video rooms which allowed this multi-purpose educational building
to serve the church’s children.
