Flagler College Campus Improvements
St. Augustine, FL
$39,283,000
Batson-Cook has completed several notable projects for Flagler
College as part of the Campus Improvements Program. These include
projects such as the construction of the Proctor Library and renovations
to Keenan Hall, which consisted of the conversion of existing library
space to classroom and lecture space.
Batson-Cook also completed a three-story dormitory totaling 45,000
square feet and a 35,000-square-foot performing arts center as a
part of the campus redevelopment. In addition, a pavilion courtyard
was designed to honor Lawrence Lewis, creator of Flagler College.
In 2000, Batson-Cook completed several miscellaneous projects such
as the addition of HVAC to the gymnasium and an upgrade of the electrical
service to Ponce Hall. Batson-Cook also restored an historic wall
on the campus. Great care was taken and the replacement pieces were
carefully reproduced to match their original counterparts.
In 2002, Batson-Cook installed HVAC to Ponce Hall, upgraded the
electrical service to the dorm rooms, replaced the dormer windows
with new missile impact resistant glass windows, and replaced the
standing seam roof system.
In 2004, Batson-Cook teamed up with Flagler to build a 45,000-square-foot, 3-story dormitory. The student housing center comprised of 52 rooms and 104 beds with one bath for every two rooms. All of the exterior details are designed so that this brand new structure will blend contextually with the existing campus buildings, many of which are over 100 years old.
In 2007, Batson-Cook completed construction of two award winning projects for Flagler: The Ringhaver Student Center and the Molly Wiley Art Building. Both projects are receipients of the 2008 AGC Horizon Award, honoring excellence in building. The Ringhaver Student Center is a focal point of the campus, blending contextually with the architecture of the surrounding areas and ties Proctor Library and Ponce de Leon Hall together. The building is two stories, 45,000 square feet and features the prototypical tower of the other campus buildings. The Molly Willey Art Building is a 4,300-square foot renovation and includes a 2,200-square foot addition to house a new maintenance shop and more. This project was awarded the Historic Preservation Award in recognition of Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Adaptive Use from the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc.
