ORLANDO, FL (September 12, 2018) – Batson-Cook Company broke ground today for construction of a free-standing emergency department on Lake Pickett Road in East Orlando that will be owned and operated by Florida Hospital.

The 24-bed emergency department will provide comprehensive emergency medical services, including diagnostic imaging, a full-service laboratory, and pharmacy services, for both adult and pediatric patients.  The one-story building will total 18,000 square feet and there will be parking for 76 vehicles. Construction costs total $10.2 million.

“The Batson-Cook team is always honored to build projects which enhance healthcare services for residents of the area,” said Duane Alexander, senior project manager for Batson-Cook. “We are scheduled to complete the project in the summer of 2019.”

The building, featuring Florida Hospital’s signature spire rising above the entrance, will be concrete tilt-wall construction with metal panels. The site is located at the corner of Colonial Avenue and Lake Pickett Road.

Architect for the project is Hunton Brady of Orlando.

TAMPA, FL (September 11, 2018) – Batson-Cook Construction and EWI Construction together broke ground recently for the long-awaited Ybor Hotel on 7th Avenue in Ybor City.

The full-service boutique hotel, which has not yet been named, will feature 176 rooms and cost an estimated $33 million to construct. The four-story building will encompass 132,000 square feet.  There will be an interior courtyard with a water feature, balconies overlooking the lively streets, and a full-service restaurant. Completion is set for early 2020.

ATLANTA, GA (September 6, 2018) – Batson-Cook Construction has ceremoniously topped out construction of Gateway Center II office building by honoring some 75 workers with lunch, prizes, and accolades for reaching this project milestone.

“We are excited to celebrate the topping out of our second project in the Gateway Center development,” said Steve McTighe, project executive for Batson-Cook. “The dedication and skill of the workers on this project have brought us to this important stage of construction, so today’s celebration is all about them.”

Gateway Center II is a four-level, 104,000-square-foot Class A office space and parking garage being developed by Grove Street Partners and Batson-Cook Development Company. The two parking levels, one of which is subterranean, will encompass 56,000 square feet and provide parking for 149 vehicles. The lobby, located on the ground level, will provide entrance to the upper two levels which will feature a total of 48,000 square feet of shell office space.

Completion of the project, which broke ground in April, is slated for January 2019.

JACKSONVILLE, FL (August 29, 2018) – Batson-Cook Construction broke ground today for construction of Normandy Park ER, a free-standing emergency room that will be owned and operated by Orange Park Medical Center.

The full-service, 10,800-square-foot emergency room will feature 10 exam rooms. It will provide both adult and pediatric services and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The site is located at 5773 Normandy Boulevard.

Construction costs total $5.2 million. Completion is set for March 2019.

Architect for the project is Hereford Dooley Architects of Nashville, TN.

TAMPA, FL (Aug. 23, 2018) –  Stephen Marano, project manager with Batson-Cook Construction, is among the newest graduates of Leadership Tampa Bay, Class of 2018. 

Marano and his 55 classmates join more than 1,000 alumni of Leadership Tampa Bay, a nine-month leadership training program designed to enhance awareness, education, and knowledge of major Tampa Bay regional issues through learning experiences and discussion. Participants represent a cross-section of the region, both geographically and professionally.

“Through Leadership Tampa Bay, I have been able to further my connectivity within the area and expand my role in organizations that can make a positive impact on this community,” Marano said. “Our class was exposed to all areas of life in Tampa Bay, honed our leadership skills, and built long-lasting relationships with people from all walks of life.”

Marano, who joined Batson-Cook in early 2017, has 13 years of experience in construction. He is an alumnus of the Associated Builders & Contractors NexGen Leadership Class of 2016, and has volunteered for the Hillsborough Education Foundation, Build Tampa Bay, and Hillsborough Juvenile Detention Center.

A native of Mobile, AL, he holds two degrees from the University of Florida: a bachelor’s in building construction and a master’s in management.  He and his wife, Alisha, have one daughter.

Morrisville, NC (August 10, 2018) – Batson-Cook Company is pleased to announce that it will break ground this month on construction of The Residences at Shiloh Crossing, a 318-unit luxury garden-style apartment complex which will cost $44.1 million to construct.

The 407,634 square foot, wood-frame complex is being developed by Dominion Realty Partners (DRP) of Raleigh. It will feature six apartment buildings and a community/leasing center, swimming pool, and other outdoor amenities. On grade parking for 461 vehicles is included in the project.

“The Batson-Cook team is excited to be part of this luxury residential project, which was designed and will be built to be environmentally green,” said Steve Rush, project executive for Batson-Cook.

Overall project completion is slated for November 2020, though some units will be delivered to the owner as early as mid-2020. 

Architect for the project is Rule Joy Trammel + Rubio of Atlanta. Priest Craven & Associates, Raleigh, is the civil engineer.

TAVARES, FL (July 13, 2018) – Batson-Cook Company is pleased to announce the completion and grand opening of Fountain Inn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a new $22-million, 120-bed healthcare facility situated by the banks of Lake Etowah on the campus of Florida Hospital Waterman.

The new 85,000-square-foot facility, owned and operated by Adventist Care Centers of Orlando, is a two-story building with 60 private rooms on each level and high-end finishes and furnishings throughout.

“It has been a pleasure for us to build this beautifully-appointed nursing home with its resort feel, welcoming atmosphere, and lake views,” said Chris Shepherd, project executive with Batson-Cook. “It will enhance the long-term care experience of residents, their families, and guests, and that is very rewarding for us.”

Occupational and physical therapy services will be provided on the first floor, which includes a therapy gym with a therapy tub and a mock residence for patients to prepare for their return to independent living. There is also a bistro-style dining area for residents and guests, a community area with a fireplace, a commercial kitchen, and a hair salon. The second floor is dedicated to skilled nursing care services.

Surface parking for 130 vehicles was also included in the project. The facility will employ about 150 people.

Architect for Fountain Inn was Lantz-Boggio Architects of Englewood, CO.

 

CARY, NC – Batson-Cook Construction, along with development partners BCDC and The Spectrum Companies, recently celebrated the topping out of the six-story Regency Woods II office building project with the raising of the highest beam, lunch, and prizes for construction workers.

“We are excited about reaching this milestone and working with The Spectrum Companies and our sister company, Batson-Cook Development Company, on Regency Woods II,” said Curt Rigney, senior vice president and general manager of Batson-Cook Construction. “It is an honor for us to be part of this high-caliber suburban office building project.”

Regency Woods II, located on 17 acres on Symphony Lake, will encompass 159,000 square feet of Class A office space. Two anchor tenants, Chiesi USA and Black & Veatch, have leased all but 50,000 square feet of the space available in the building.

Also included in the project is a single-level, 289-space parking deck, also currently underway.

Completion of Regency Woods II is slated for yearend 2018.  LS3P is the architect for the project, and WithersRavenel is the engineer.

 

CONNERTON, FL (May 31, 2018) – Batson-Cook Construction and Florida Hospital Connerton broke ground today for a $13.7-million project to expand the hospital’s Long Term Acute Care facility here.

The expansion will add 25,074 square feet and 30 beds to the existing 9-year-old facility, increasing capacity to 75 beds.  At present, the facility serves more than 600 chronically- and critically-ill patients annually.

Also included in the project are an expanded lobby, a multi-purpose education room, a staff lounge, and an expanded board room, and additional parking. Accommodations to allow patients’ family members, including pets, to stay with them will also be implemented.

“We are honored to be part of a project that will enhance healthcare services for medically-complex patients in this part of the state,” said Evender Spradlin, general manager and senior vice president of Batson-Cook. “The new building, along with renovations planned for the existing space, will enable the hospital to further its mission ‘to extend the healing ministry of Christ’.”

The project is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2019.

Architect for the project is HuntonBrady of Tampa.


 

COLUMBUS, GA (April 16, 2018) – Tours of the new Emergency Department at Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center Northside on Frist Court were the order of the day as Batson-Cook Construction and Piedmont Columbus Regional Health celebrated the project’s completion at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new 17,000-square-foot Emergency Department, which connects to the hospital, features 10 beds and emergency medical support services. The project also included an emergency vehicle access, a 40-space parking lot, and associated site work. Construction costs totaled $5.5 million.

“We are honored to have built the first Emergency Department at Northside Medical Center,” said Paul Meadows, general manager of Batson-Cook’s West Point office. “This is an important addition to the hospital, and greatly enhances healthcare services to the residents of Columbus and the surrounding communities.”

EYP/Stanley Beaman & Sears of Atlanta was the architect for the project.

Northside Medical Center is one of the two Columbus Regional Health hospitals that were recently acquired by Piedmont Healthcare of Atlanta.

ATLANTA, GA (March 22, 2018) – Each Spring, AGC Georgia presents the Ron Amerson Supervisors’ Safety Award to its member firms’ field supervisors who achieve safety excellence based on no lost-time accidents the previous year. The program spotlights general and specialty contractors' field supervisors for their outstanding safety performance and dedication to jobsite safety.

This year, 23 Batson-Cook superintendents from the company’s Atlanta and West Point offices met the requirements to earn a Certificate of Commendation for Safety Excellence. The measurement criterion is based on safety incidence rates for individual supervisors in conjunction with actual man-hours directly supervised by each employee based on man-hours supervised. The man-hours include supervised time for employees on the member company’s payroll and not subcontractors.

KENNESAW, GA (March 16, 2018) – Batson-Cook Construction broke ground this week for construction of the new $8.5-million North Cobb Regional Library on the corner of Old Highway 41 and Blue Springs Road.

The new Cobb County regional library, designed to be a one-story building encompassing 25,600 square feet, will provide distinct creative learning spaces for children, young adults, and adults. Completion is scheduled for June 2019.

“We are honored to serve Cobb County and the citizens of Kennesaw and Acworth by building a state-of-the-art library that will serve as a cornerstone for learning and a home for community events for generations to come,” said Jonathan Collard, project manager for Batson-Cook.

The children’s area will feature computer learning stations, special program rooms, and reading rooms. The young adult area will have group and private study rooms, digital training rooms, reading rooms, a maker space room, and lounge-style seating areas. A large and small community room, along with a gallery for displaying local art, will be included in the adult section of the library.

Architect for the project is McMillan Pazden Smith of Greenville, SC.

This is the second Cobb County regional library project Batson-Cook has been awarded. The general contracting firm completed construction of Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center in Marietta in December of last year.

 

WEST POINT, GA (Feb. 5, 2018) – Batson-Cook Company is pleased to announce that Rodney Robinson has joined the company as vice president of business development for its West Point, Georgia, regional office, effectively immediately.

Robinson has nearly three decades of experience in project management, operations, and business development within the construction industry. He looks forward to applying his generalist approach to Batson-Cook’s business development efforts in the West Point region.

Robinson succeeds Hans Gant, who was named vice president of business development for Batson-Cook’s regional office in Atlanta.

A graduate of Auburn University, Robinson is a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, NAIOP, Alabama Rural Electric Association, and Economic Development Authority of Alabama.

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 25, 2018) - Batson-Cook Construction is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Diamantis to the position of manager of preconstruction services for its regional office in the South End of the city.

Diamantis, a 32-year veteran of the construction industry, will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all preconstruction operations for the Charlotte office. 

“We are excited to have someone with Michael’s experience heading up our preconstruction operations in Charlotte,” said Randy Hall, CEO of Batson-Cook. “He has held a wide range of positions within the construction industry, making him uniquely qualified to deliver exceptional preconstruction services to our clients across multiple market sectors here in Charlotte.”

A native of New York, Diamantis holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering technology from Southern Polytechnic State University (now the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta) and a master’s in business administration from Queens University of Charlotte.

In addition to being a licensed general contractor and LEED Associate, Diamantis has completed Grinnell and LORE Leadership Training programs and is a member of the Professional Construction Estimators Association, USGBC, and Associated Builders and Contractors.

ATLANTA, GA (Jan. 8, 2018) – Batson-Cook Company is pleased to announce that Hans Gant has been named vice president of business development for the general contracting firm’s regional office in Atlanta, effective immediately.

Gant joined Batson-Cook in 2014 to lead the firm’s business development endeavors in the regions served by the West Point, Georgia, regional office. Succeeding Gant in the company’s West Point office is Rodney Robinson, a 30-year construction industry veteran.

Gant, a veteran economic developer with experience in real estate development and city planning, looks forward to pursuing new projects in the regions served by the company’s Atlanta office. He served as senior vice president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce for 15 years, during which time he led domestic and international marketing and business recruitment efforts. On his watch, the chamber worked with state and local economic development groups throughout Metro Atlanta, attracting more than 800 new companies to the area.

“We are excited to have Hans working in our Atlanta office,” said Randy Hall, President and CEO of Batson-Cook. “His impact in West Point was notable, and we have no doubt that he will meet with success in the Atlanta market.”
