JACKSONVILLE, FL (September 19, 2016) – Batson-Cook Construction broke ground today for the Tower C project on the campus of Baptist Medical Center South. In addition to construction of the tower, which is set for completion in the final quarter of 2017, Batson-Cook will also expand and/or relocate several areas within the existing hospital and expand the central energy plant.
Tower C will be an eight-story, 156,000-square-foot facility designed to mirror the existing Tower D. Three floors – the first, third and fourth – will house hospital services. The first floor will have support services; the third, labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum; and the fourth, a medical/surgical unit. The remaining five floors - second, and fifth through eighth – will be shell space for future expansion.
The existing areas to be expanded and/or relocated are the laboratory, radiology, dietary, and surgery/PACU/pre-op. The central energy plant will be expanded to provide the additional capacity required to operate Tower C.
Overall, the project encompasses about 180,000 square feet. Architect is Gresham, Smith & Partners of Jacksonville. Trade partners include W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractors, mechanical and plumbing services, and Miller Electric Company, electrical services.
Assigned to the Batson-Cook project team are Chris Shepherd, project executive; Brian Kluge, senior project manager; Thomas Walton and Matt Wozniak, project managers; Darrell Brooks, general superintendent; David Tate, senior superintendent; William Estes and Jacob Watterson, superintendents; John Strickland, MEP superintendent; Kalpana Marothu, BIM coordinator; Scott Hudson, preconstruction services director; and Vallerie Campbell, construction coordinator.
