Atlanta, Georgia (October 23, 2015)
Batson-Cook Construction has broken ground on Airport Renaissance Hotel, a new luxury hotel scheduled to open in March 2017 at the Gateway Convention Center near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The seven-story, 136,000-square-foot hotel will feature 204 rooms and a conference center with ballrooms and meeting rooms.  Other amenities include a restaurant, full-service bar and studio, and fitness center.  An additional 187 parking spaces will be added to an existing parking deck at the site.  The project will cost $34.4 million to construct.

 

 

 

 

 

"We are excited to begin work on our first project with Grove Street Partners, the developers of the hotel,” said Dave Schoendorf, vice-president of Batson-Cook. Grove Street Partners is a real estate development, management and leasing company which focuses primarily on office, industrial and hospitality properties.

Architect for the project is Rule Joy Trammell and Rubio of Atlanta. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing services are being provided by McKenney’s, Inc., Excel Electrical Technologies, and Stasco Plumbing, respectively.  At the peak of construction, more than 200 workers will be on site.

The Batson-Cook construction team includes Steve McTighe, project executive; Chad Loggains, project manager; Charlie Meachum and David Higginbotham, project superintendents; David Rose, assistant project manager; Chuck Hogg and Rob Grupp, engineers; and Angelo Williams and MacKenzie Bowers, carpenters.

Mila Novicich, a project manager for Batson-Cook Construction, has been named to the Leadership Tampa Bay Class of 2016.  

Leadership Tampa Bay is a year-long program which seeks to enhance awareness, education and knowledge of major regional issues through learning experience and discussion.  More than 700 individuals representing some 350 businesses and organizations in the region have participated in the leadership development experience since its inception in 1988.

“I look forward to meeting and working with a diverse group of people across various market sectors who will bring unique perspectives on how we can make the Tampa Bay region the best it can be for everyone, both personally and collectively,” Novicich said.

Novicich, who joined Batson-Cook in 2004, has 12 years of construction experience.  She most recently served as project manager for Jack Lamb Elementary School, a $16.8-million prototype facility built for Hillsborough County School Board.  Novicich was also project manager on the $36.7-million NEXLUBE Phase 1 used oil recycling plant project for Port Tampa Bay, and was part of the construction team for the $475-million Disney Resort in O’ahu, Hawaii, which was built by Batson-Cook’s sister company, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company.

Novicich holds a bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida.  Her volunteer interests include Habitat for Humanity and Hillsborough Education Foundation.

Lindsay Ryle, a project engineer with Batson-Cook Construction, has been named to Leadership Pasco’s Class of 2016.

Leadership Pasco’s mission is to identify and recruit current and potential leaders of East, Central and West Pasco County and develop their leadership potential in an issues-oriented team learning environment with a commitment to encouraging a free exchange of ideas. The program has graduated more than 600 participants since its inception in 1990.

“I am a life-long resident of Pasco County, so I’m looking forward to learning about ways to make a positive impact in my home county,” said Ryle, who has been with Batson-Cook for three years. “Education and public safety are of special interest to me, but it will be a great experience to meet with civic and business leaders and build lasting relationships with them and my classmates.”

Candidates for membership in the nine-month long program must live or work in Pasco County; have the commitment and motivation to utilize their leadership abilities for the long-term benefit of Pasco County; have the full support of the company or organization they represent; have a commitment to community diversity; have a desire and willingness to participate in key volunteer and/or appointed leadership roles related to important issues facing the community; and have a commitment to play a personal role in helping to shape Pasco County’s future.

Ryle most recently served as project engineer for the construction of SkyHouse Channelside in Tampa.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from University of South Florida, and is active in the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and Habitat for Humanity.  Ryle and her husband, who have one son, enjoy watersports of all kinds, from snorkeling and surfing to boating and scalloping.
