H.J.High Construction Company / Batson-Cook Company Awarded Phase II of Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas Savannah Machinery Works Construction Project

March 16, 2010 - Atlanta, GA - The joint-venture of H.J. High Construction Company / Batson-Cook Company has been awarded the second phase of the Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas (MPSA) Savannah Machinery Works construction project.  The team will build a $16.9 million, 75,000-square-foot manufacturing bay for the new facility in Pooler, Georgia.

“The team is proud to have earned the trust of Mitsubishi, as demonstrated by the awarding of this second phase of construction,” stated Batson-Cook Project Executive Wendell Martin.  “We are pleased to continue work on a facility that will be beneficial to the Pooler community and Georgia.”

The joint-venture will erect a manufacturing wing that will stand 800 feet long by 109 feet wide by 75 feet tall.  Construction of this bay, Bay 6, will include recessed pits designed to secure heavy machinery.  Two overhead cranes will also be installed.  The general contractors will also construct a rail line of approximately one mile on the property.  This rail line will provide Mitsubishi Power Systems a link to the local rail spur and subsequent access to the Port of Savannah.

With the addition of Phase II, the team of H.J. High and Batson-Cook will have over $40 million in construction work under contract with MPSA.  The second phase is scheduled to be completed in April 2011.
Phase I of the Mitsubishi Power Systems Savannah Machinery Works construction project involves the design-build of 150,000 square feet of machinery manufacturing space as well as 30,000 square feet of office space.  This initial portion of construction is scheduled to be operational one year from the project start.
