Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute For Rehabilitation Selects Batson-Cook To Construct New Residence Hall

Building is designed for highest rating through Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

February 1, 2010 - West Point, Georgia – The Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation recently selected Batson-Cook to construct a two story 71,000-square-foot residence hall.  The facility, The Roosevelt School, will provide 150 beds for some of the 5,000 patients with disabilities from across the United States.

The building will consist of eighty rooms in all, with single, double and quadruple sleeping quarters.  In addition, the building will provide classrooms, a café and a library.  The latter two, along with the common areas, will feature exposed heavy timber and storefront glass.  In addition, two masonry stone fireplaces will be focal points in these areas.  Lounges and a nurse’s station will also be included in this dormitory.

Batson-Cook and architect Cooper Carry have been tasked to design and construct this state-of-the-art facility to exceed the current ADA standard.  Upon completion, the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute residence hall will establish a new benchmark for accreditation, ADA++.

“Batson-Cook is happy to assist with the mission of the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation,” states Project Executive Paul Meadows.  “Our firm constructed one of the first residence halls on campus, Georgia Hall, in 1933 and we look forward to expanding upon this legacy.”
