March 6, 2012 - Atlanta and West Point, Georgia – The employees of Batson-Cook Construction recently hosted the 7th Annual Clays for a Cause at the Cherokee Rose Sporting Resort in Griffin, Georgia.  The event raised $104,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society and the Children’s Village at Christian City in Union City .  Each will received $52,000, with the American Cancer Society sharing the monies between its Cobb and Muscogee Chapters.

Said Batson-Cook President and General Manager of the Atlanta office, R. Randy Hall, “Approximately 170 firms sponsored Clays for a Cause this year, the highest level of support we have received to date.  We are particularly grateful to our “Expert Sponsors” Graham and Turner Grading (of Cartersville) and Mulkey Enterprises (of Marietta ).”

Firms from and Alabama sent teams to Clays for a Cause, raising this year’s number of participants by 20% to 268.  Walter Thompson of Brent Scarbrough & Company, Inc., won the tournament, shooting 96 out of 100.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.5 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, about 11 million people in who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
