Senior Vice President & General Manager Tampa
As an intern at Batson-Cook during his college years, Conn Crabtree was impressed by the family atmosphere and comraderie that permeated the workplace. Now, as he reflects on his 19-year career, he finds that those very attributes have contributed significantly to the success and fulfillment he has enjoyed.
“Two things I appreciate about Batson-Cook are having co-workers whom I consider to be friends and family, and being supported by our leaders to always do the right thing,” Conn says.
As senior vice president and general manager of Batson-Cook’s Tampa Division, Conn carries ultimate responsibility for strategic planning, business development, and construction operations of the office, and manages other tasks essential to the growth of the Tampa office and the company as a whole. He began his career in the West Point Division as a project engineer, and rose through the ranks to project executive before being tapped to manage the Tampa office. In those 19 years, his personal construction portfolio grew to exceed $450 million.
One of Conn’s primary goals as head of the Tampa office is to provide his staff with resources and training to help them grow both personally and professionally and enjoy success. “I am motivated to present them with the same opportunities I have had along the way,” he said, noting that Batson-Cook has long been known for employee longevity.
Conn derives great satisfaction from watching a group of people combine their knowledge, experience and creativity to solve complex problems that inevitably arise on large construction projects. “When everyone on the team shoulders the responsibility for the outcome and is then empowered to develop and execute the solution, it is exciting to watch!”
Conn’s undergraduate studies at Auburn University began in the College of Engineering, but his passion for a more hands-on career led him to follow in his father’s footsteps and earn a bachelor’s in building science. He has since achieved LEED AP certification.
A native of Mobile, AL, Conn and his wife, Sarah, have a young teenage son. Conn enjoys golf, kayaking and fishing, and is a member of the Lions Club. He is a graduate of Leadership Columbus (GA), and served on the Georgia Associated General Contractors’ Young Leadership Program Executive Council.
